The Great War Over Here: Stories from the Home Front
Hosted by the National Archives at Atlanta, this symposium draws on the approximately 10,000 cubic feet of records related to the home front during World War I. These records document the federal government’s attempts at food conservation, promotion of the war effort and the purchase of Liberty Bonds, as well as intelligence investigations by the U.S. Navy. Other historical records tell the story of the 24 million men who registered for the Selective Service and those who were prosecuted and incarcerated for violating the Espionage and Sedition Acts of 1917. This symposium will feature scholars whose publications are based on these holdings.
