Curated by Georgia College Special Collections, “The Soul of Georgia” is a richly illustrated exhibit highlighting Middle Georgia’s incredible impact on the formation of R&B and soul. The exhibition’s grand opening will feature a lecture by Dr. Maisha Akbar of Fort Valley State University. Dr. Akbar will explore the blueswoman performance tradition as a means through which Black women expressed their stories of systematic oppression, including economic exploitation, gender and race discrimination, and broken romantic love.
This event is supported by a grant from Georgia Humanities.
