DESCRIPTION:Sunday in the Park: Bringing History to Life \nBack before cities built public parks\, average people would bring a picnic basket and some musical instruments (and maybe a few adult libations) to the local cemetery and revere the dead by celebrating life in what was often one of the only patches of public space in town. Oakland Cemetery’s annual Sunday in the Park event\, now in its 40th year\, hails from this tradition. \nVisitors can enjoy living history theatre performances\, tours\, an artists’ market\, food trucks\, live music\, storytelling\, crafts for kids\, and a historical costume contest as they explore how the cemetery\, surrounding neighborhoods\, and the city have changed over time and celebrate the local communities that make Oakland what it is today. \nThis event is supported by a grant from Georgia Humanities.

DESCRIPTION:WWI Otranto Centennial Memorial \nThe city of Nashville\, in Berrien County\, will pay tribute to the families of the young men who lost their lives in the sinking of the troop ship HMS Otranto\, in the stormy seas off the coast of Islay\, Scotland. The memorial will begin with a parade up Davis Street\, followed by a dedication at the Doughboy monument at the old courthouse square. Following the dedication\, there will be a tour of a patriotic art display created by local artists and a viewing of video footage taken in June 2018 of the Otranto wreckage. After lunch\, there will be a display of military equipment and a balloon release. The parade lineup begins at 8:00am. \nThe event is free and open to the public.
