SUMMARY:Georgia's Fall Line
DESCRIPTION:Columbus sits at the southeastern United States’ fall line\, a geological boundary marked by rapid changes in elevation. Near rivers\, this natural feature results in rapids that southern entrepreneurs have sought to harness for more than 200 years. \nGeorgia’s fall line cuts the state nearly in half\, running from Augusta south through Macon and Columbus. The effects of this feature generated economic and cultural similarities that continue to be seen today\, even as each city sought to forge its own path. \nGeorgia’s Fall Line spotlights Georgia’s Fall Line cities\, highlighting the key role that manufacturing\, textile mills\, and the U.S. military played in each community\, as well as the importance of trade and transportation networks in economic development. Once seen only as industrial cities\, the exhibition situates Georgia’s Fall Line communities and their contributions within the state’s broader history. In addition to spotlighting The Columbus Museum’s collection\, it features objects and images from institutions throughout the state such as the Augusta Museum of History\, the Morris Museum of Art\, and the Middle Georgia Archives. \nThis project is supported by Georgia Humanities\, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Economic Development\, through funding from the Georgia General Assembly.

SUMMARY:Revolution on the Coast: A 250th Celebration -  First Oval Office Project of the Museum of the American Revolution
DESCRIPTION:Coastal Georgia Historical Society invites history lovers of all ages to the beautiful Golden Isles for a special Semiquincentennial experience: Revolution on the Coast: A 250th Celebration March 9-15\, 2026. \nThe main event is the First Oval Office Project of the Museum of the American Revolution\, which will bring a replica of George Washington’s Revolutionary War tent—the mobile command center of the Continental Army—to St. Simons Island. The project also includes other tents like common soldiers’ tents and a dining tent\, as well as costumed interpreters\, that will reveal the experiences of those who served and sacrificed during the war. General George Washington’s original sleeping and office tent from the Revolutionary War is on permanent display at the Museum of the American Revolution in historic Philadelphia. \nIn addition\, CGHS will provide complementary experiential programming during the weekend\, such as silhouette drawing\, quill writing\, tricorn hat making\, archaeology digs\, and more. This will be the first time this special program has visited the state of Georgia\, providing a wonderful opportunity to engage with the deeply significant and perennially relevant history of the American Revolution. \nWhile week-day programming is priced per program\, the First Oval Office weekend event is free. Registration and Check In is required. \n

DESCRIPTION:National History Day (NHD) Georgia is a program of Georgia Humanities and LaGrange College. The State Contest\, held at LaGrange College on April 18\, showcases the best student work from across the state\, as more than 500 students in grades 6-12 present their entries to volunteer expert judges. Students have the opportunity to advance beyond the state-level contest and represent Georgia at the national NHD contest in June. \nIt takes more than 130 judges to make the State Contest happen.
