DESCRIPTION:Dr. Wendy Hui Kyong Chun will present her lecture “From Discriminating Data to Digital Democracies: Why We Need to Work Across Disciplines” on Thursday\, September 29\, at 4:30 pm at Georgia State University. \nDr. Chun is the Canada 150 Research Chair in New Media at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia\, where she also leads the Digital Democracies Group. Her scholarly work focuses on three key areas of investigation (1) cultural formations and technological artifacts\, (2) theoretical concepts in the humanistic and technological disciplines\, and (3) popular perceptions of technology and technological protocols. She is the author of several books\, including Updating to Remain the Same: Habitual New Media and Control and Freedom: Power and Paranoia in the Age of Fiber Optics. \nThe lecture will be offered in person and via live stream. Presented by FIND Outdoors\, Dr. Joe Candillo will explore this rich history in his presentation “The Reality of Native American Ceremony & Spirituality.”  \nJoe Candillo is a tribally enrolled citizen of the Pascua Yaqui Indian Tribe of Arizona (Federally recognized tribe). He holds a Ph.D. in American Studies with a concentration in Indigenous Studies\, and his research focuses on Native American spirituality\, aboriginal North American environmental adaptation\, and material culture traditions.  \nThis presentation will take place outdoors at the Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area. Joe will be showcasing Native American spirituality through discussion and demonstration\, as well as tools\, art\, and clothing Joe has made himself.  The event is free to attend but seating is limited. \nThis program is supported by a grant from Georgia Humanities.

Presented by FIND Outdoors\, Dr. Joe Candillo will explore this rich history in his presentation “The Reality of Native American Ceremony & Spirituality.”  \nJoe Candillo is a tribally enrolled citizen of the Pascua Yaqui Indian Tribe of Arizona (Federally recognized tribe). He holds a Ph.D. in American Studies with a concentration in Indigenous Studies\, an MA in American Indian Studies\, and an undergraduate degree in Anthropology. Dr. Candillo’s research background focuses on Native American spirituality\, aboriginal North American environmental adaptation\, and material culture traditions.  \nThis presentation will take place indoors in the Brasstown Bald Mountain Top Theatre. Joe will be showcasing Native American spirituality through discussion and demonstration\, as well as tools\, art\, and clothing Joe has made himself.  The event is free to attend but seating is limited.  \nThis program is supported by a grant from Georgia Humanities.

DESCRIPTION:Georgia State University Humanities Research Center presents its next lecture series event featuring Georgia State University professor of political science Jelena Subotić. The lecture is based on her recent book about Eastern European remembrance of the Holocaust since the fall of communism. Yellow Star\, Red Star has won multiple awards\, including the Robert Jervis and Paul Schroeder Best Book Award from the American Political Science Association and the Harriman Rothschild Book Prize. The event is free and open to the public and will be offered in a hybrid format\, both in-person at the College of Arts & Sciences Event Center and live-streamed over Zoom.
