SUMMARY:Resilient Atlanta: New Perspectives on the Civil War and Its Aftermath
DESCRIPTION:Resilient Atlanta: New Perspectives on the Civil War and Its Aftermath symposium \n \nAtlanta suffered a steep descent during the Civil War\, and ended it in a worse state than any other American city. Yet Atlanta emerged like a phoenix from the ashes of war largely due to the people who lived there. Rich and poor\, black and white\, those born free and those newly free\, male and female\, Christian and Jew – the entire fabric of the city rose up and redefined the “Atlanta Spirit.” \nGeorgia Institute of Technology will host a symposium about Reconstruction Atlanta and the city’s postwar miracle. \n  \nThis event is free and open to the public. \nLunch will be provided. \nRSVP to chris.mcdermott@gatech.edu. \nThis symposium is supported by a grant from Georgia Humanities.
