GHC and Civil Rights Digital Library Win Schwartz Prize
The Georgia Humanities Council wins the Helen and Martin Schwartz Prize for their partnership with the Digital Library of Georgia on the Civil Rights Digital Library.
The Federation of State Humanities Councils offers the Helen and Martin Schwartz Prize to recognize outstanding work in the public humanities that is supported or conducted by state humanities councils. Only three projects across the country are selected each year for this honor. The Federation selected the Civil Rights Digital Library partnership (http://crdl.usg.edu)for its unique contribution to the humanities and for its impact on the region and on the state.
The Civil Rights Digital Library is an amazing resource that provides a digital video archive of historical news footage, a portal connecting users to civil rights movement content from libraries worldwide, and instructional materials for educators to use in the classroom.
The Georgia Humanities Council is proud to have been a part of this project via the New Georgia Encyclopedia. The Encyclopedia took part in the project by developing original articles to supplement the news footage and to provide historical context for the movement in Georgia.
