Governor's Awards in the Humanities

The Governor's Awards celebrate local community members and organizations that are working to increase the understanding and appreciation of the humanities in Georgia.

Overview

The purpose of this event is to recognize exemplary work in the humanities and to highlight awardees as models for others in the state.

Hundreds of educators, business, and cultural leaders gather to celebrate the humanities each year. The event begins with the Annual Humanities Lecture.  Awards are presented at a luncheon that follows.

Past Governor’s Award recipients include:

  • First Lady Rosalynn Carter of Plains
  • The Ritz Cultural Theater in Albany
  • Author Terry Kay of Athens

 And many, many more.

Impact

  • Cultural leaders, scholars and educators network in ways that lead to future partnerships.
  • Public awareness increases concerning the impact of humanities projects  on our state.
