Summer Teacher Workshops 2008

1. From Plains to Pennsylvania Avenue: "Georgia People and Places and the Making of a President"

Sponsored by the Georgia Humanities Council, the Jimmy Carter Educational Program, and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum, this workshop offers teachers an opportunity to learn more about American history in the 20th Century through exploring the places and people associated with the lives of President and Mrs. Jimmy Carter. Participants will gain content knowledge, as well as awareness of resources for enhancing student learning.

The workshop includes instruction, field experiences, books, materials, lodging in Plains and Atlanta, and most meals.

Registration fee: $75
Registration deadline: REGISTRATION CLOSED
When: June 8-12, 2008
Where: Plains and Atlanta
Open To: 2nd, 5th, 8th, and 11th Grade Teachers and Media Specialists

25 Teachers will be selected to participate. Participants will earn 3 PLUs.

2. "Slaves, Slavery and the Individual in America's Past"

This national workshop, sponsored by the Georgia Humanities Council and National History Day, offers teachers an opportunity to learn more about American history in the 18th and 19th Centuries through tracing the institution of slavery and its social, political, and economic impact.  Participants will gain content knowledge, as well as awareness of resources for enhancing student learning through National History Day participation.

The workshop includes instruction, field experiences, books, materials, lodging in Savannah, and most meals.  There is a $75 registration fee.

Registration deadline: REGISTRATION CLOSED
When:  July 13-18
Where: Savannah (lodging at Armstrong Atlantic State University)
Open to: Middle and High School Teachers and Media Specialists
            10 Georgia teachers will be selected to participate. Participants will earn 3 PLUs.
