2008 Awards Luncheon

Join us for the 23rd Annual Governor's Awards in the Humanities Luncheon, taking place Thursday May 8, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. the Old Georgia Railroad Freight Depot in downtown Atlanta.

At this capstone event, the Office of Governor Sonny Perdue honors Georgia's 2008 "humanities heroes". These individuals and organizations are recognized for building community, character, and citizenship and for significantly impacting their communities through their work in humanities education for the public. Representing Governor Sonny Perdue, Speaker Pro Tempore Mark Burkhalter will present the awardees with medallions.

The 2008 recipients of the Governor's Awards in the Humanities are:

Dr. Mary Alice Budge, Columbus
Mr. James Caldwell, Macon
Dr. LeeAnn Caldwell, Milledgeville and Augusta
Ms. Rosemary Daniell, Savannah
Mr. Dale Couch, Decatur
Senator George Hooks, Americus
Dr. Cliff Kuhn, Atlanta
Mr. Erick Montgomery, Augusta
Mrs. Sue M. Moye, Lumpkin

University of Georgia Press, Athens

Over 500 attendees are expected to attend this event, including many of Georgia's cultural leaders. The Luncheon is presented in conjunction with the Annual Humanities Lecture, delivered this year by Mr. John T. Edge of the Southern Foodways Alliance. To tie in with the topic of the lecture, this year's lunch features the award winning barbecue of Sam and Dave's in Marietta.

Tickets are required for the luncheon and are $50 per seat. Table Sponshorships (seat 10) may be purchased for $600 ($100 tax-deductible) or $1,000 ($500 tax deductible). Click here to purchase tickets online.
