Georgia Students Bring Home Awards from National History Day
Eight students from Gainesville, Suwanee, and Columbus received honors for outstanding achievement at National History Day.
Congratulations to:
- Katie Dionne, who placed 11th in Junior Individual Performance, for “King Cotton Diplomacy: Confederate Foreign Relations Hanging by a Thread”. (Teacher - Kelly Schollaert, The DaVinci Academy at South Hall Middle) Katie also received the special award for Outstanding Entry on the Civil War, sponsored by the Civil War Preservation Trust.
- Giahoa Nguyen, Ellen Min, Mariam Ahmed, and Eun Jun Lee who placed 14th in the nation and received Georgia's Outstanding State Entry for the Senior Division for their Senior Web site, “Debated Currency: The Battle Between the Silver and Gold Standard”. (Teacher - Terrae Fogarty, Collins Hill High School).
- Nicholas Teague, Tom Driver, and Dudley Graham who received Georgia's Outstanding State Entry in the Junior Division for their group exhibit "Roe V. Wade". (Teacher - Jane Goldfrank, Brookstone School)
We recognize these students and all who participated in National History Day in Georgia 2011 for their hard work and original research. Students who participate in National History Day have been shown to outperform their peers in a number of areas related to student achievement.
We encourage teachers and students all across Georgia to get involved. The theme for National History Day 2012 is Revolution, Reaction and Reform in History.
