Call for Nominations: You Can Make History, or Herstory!
The Georgia Women of Achievement calls for nominations of historical Georgia women who have contributed greatly to society. The deadline for submissions is November 1, 2011.
There are many outstanding women in Georgia’s history, and most of their names are not in our textbooks!
Do you know a woman who:
• Is from, or closely identified with Georgia?
• Has made exceptional contributions in one or more fields of endeavor?
• Is inspiring to others?
• Has been deceased 10 years or more?
If so, you can make “HERSTORY!”
In 1988, Rosalynn Carter believed that Georgia needed an organization to honor these exceptional women. She worked with others to make the organization Georgia Women of Achievement a reality. Each March in Women’s History Month, up to three women are inducted into the organization’s online museum.
You can make HERSTORY by nominating a woman whose contributions need to be recognized. Nominations are due November 1, 2011, for the 2012 induction ceremony.
• Any individual or group may nominate a woman.
• If you are a teacher of middle, high school or college, consider making this research project an option for your students.
