Call for Applicants: Cotton Culture in the U.S. South

Teachers and education graduate students in social studies and the humanities can apply to attend a five-week teacher institute in Macon. The application deadline is March 1, 2012.

This institute is open to twenty-five attendees.  Participants will hear from an interdisciplinary panel of experts on southern history and culture.  Presenters and attendees will use the cultivation of cotton as a means to analyze and understand the region's art, music, history, geography, economics, politics, culture, and literature.

The institute will meet from June 24 through July 27, 2012, at Mercer University in Macon.  Participants will attend workshops on campus and will take several trips throughout Georgia to better understand the importance of cotton.  For this five-week institute participants will earn $3,900.
