ASO President Delivers the Annual Humanities Lecture
The Georgia Humanities Council and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) are pleased to announce Dr. Stanley Romanstein as this year's Annual Humanities Lecturer.
An accomplished nonprofit executive, Dr. Romanstein holds 22 years of leadership and management experience in education and the arts. He will speak at the 2011 Annual Humanities Lecture on the rich connection between the humanities and the arts.
Both music and the humanities played an inspirational role in Dr. Romanstein’s career. A singer and a native of South Carolina, Dr. Romanstein grew up in a household of musical influences. After earning his undergraduate degree in music, he attended the University of Cincinnati's Conservatory of Music to earn his master's degree in conducting and a doctorate in musicology. He served as president and CEO of the Minnesota Humanities Center for nine years before becoming the president of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in April 2010. Today, Dr. Romanstein continues the symphony's dedication to music and education.
The 2011 Annual Humanities Lecture will be held this fall in conjunction with the Governor's Awards in the Humanities. This lecture series of noted voices in the humanities raises awareness about cultural and humanities programs and increases understanding among Georgians regarding contemporary research and topics in the humanities.
Past speakers include Ambassador Andrew Young; MacArthur fellow Dr. Eve Trout Powell; and Jim Leach, chair of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
