Georgia Recording Artists Support New Harmonies

The Georgia Humanities Council is pleased to announce that Georgia recording artists Chuck Leavell and R.E.M. have made donations towards the campaign for New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music in Georgia.  They join a growing list of supporters for the exhibition, including Bertis and Katherine Downs, Mike Mills, Bill Berry, Thomas K. Glenn, the Recording Academy®- Atlanta Chapter, the Fickling Foundation, Alan Rothschild/the Mildred Miller Fort Foundation and the Knox Foundation.  Trucks Inc. of Jackson has come on board as the official transportation partner for the tour.  Council board member Rose Lane Leavell is providing volunteer leadership to this fundraising campaign.

Other partner organizations for the tour include the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibits Service, the Center for Public History at the University of West Georgia, the Georgia Department of Economic Development-Tourism Division and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

Thanks to the generosity of these donors, twelve Georgia communities (Calhoun, Madison, Darien, Perry, Moultrie, Toccoa, Bremen, Thompson,  Nashville, Americus, Waycross, and LaGrange) will be able to host the exhibit and celebrate Georgia’s musical heritage.

To join this effort, we invite you to make a donation. Your tax-deductible gift will support local programming to enhance the exhibition. Click here to learn more about our campaign to support New Harmonies.
