The Plains Experience: Traveling through Time

Organization: Georgia Humanities Council and Jimmy Carter Boyhood Home

Location and Time: Various Locations in Plains

This workshop will use historic sites, oral history, memoirs, and other primary and secondary sources associated with President Jimmy Carter to help teachers develop activities related to the Georgia Performance Standards history and civics strands for grades 2-5. After completion of the course, participants will receive a classroom set of materials for the We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution program from the Center for Civic Education.

King Lati the First

Organization: Athens Jewish Film Festival and Athens Clarke County Library

Location and Time: Athens Clarke County Library Auditorium, 6 p.m.

A series of four films focused on Jewish life and culture will be shown at the library. This first film portrays an Israeli youngster who is the son of a Senegalese father and a Russian mother. The young man struggles with issues of identity. Special guest Adam Klien, Athens songwriter/musician, and a former Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa.

National History Day Contest

Winners from the state competition of National History Day in Georgia go to Maryland to compete with winners from across the nation.
